Hi everyone,

We’ve just organized for 2 amazing International Singer/Songwriters to do a special all-ages show at Camelot THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!!! From the USA, it’s the fantastic STEVE POLTZ! From the Canadian band Broken Social Scene, it’s JASON COLLETT!

STOP PRESS!! STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!! We've moved things around to be able to accommodate a fabulous double act this Saturday night 15th January – a show NOT TO BE MISSED!!! We’re very excited to have performing amongst the camels... a wonderful singer/songwriter/guitarist from San Diego, USA... the charming...the witty...the wonderful... STEVE POLTZ!

And...opening the show will be a very special guest... Another International Singer/Songwriter extraordinaire... He headlined Splendour in the Grass this year with his band BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE... From Canada, it’s... JASON COLLETT!

“They say that life begins at 40, but in the case of JASON COLLETT, that’s not just some overly optimistic bumper-sticker slogan. To many indie-rock fans, Jason Collett is the wise, big-brother character in Broken Social Scene: the calm, cool, collected totem of stability in a band defined by drama and chaos. But this reading of Collett belies the  restless, curious spirit that he’s exhibited throughout his solo career outside of Broken Social Scene. For someone who’s been a fixture on the Toronto live-music circuit for two decades, you could totally understand if an artist of Collett’s experience and vintage settled into a country-rock comfort zone, and kept strumming the same ol’ songs until his ears gave out. But at the core of Collett’s big brotherly wisdom is the idea that, the older you get, the more you realize there’s still so much to learn...."

"...What’s most remarkable is how willing Collett is to bend and reshape his familiar voice to suit the song — whether laying on a thick Dylan twang on the sublimely gorgeous “Cold Blue Halo”, going down low to revel in the Lou Reed grittiness of “Bitch City” or hamming it up on the cheeky Kinks-gone country travelogue “Vanderpool Vanderpool.” Taken as a whole, you get the overwhelming sense of an artist who, despite having spent 20-odd years in the rock ‘n’ roll trenches, is still discovering new things about himself and his music, and who is willing to open himself up and get schooled by collaborators several years his junior....”

Those that saw Steve Poltz perform at QIRKZ a couple of years ago, will know it’s a show not to be missed...completely engaging, utterly entertaining, and great fun to boot!

"STEVE POLTZ is not normal. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada) but has lived most of his life in Southern California and those geographic poles are quite likely responsible for his unhinged genius.Over the course of his life he’s met Elvis Presley (who hugged his sister for far too long), trick or treated at Liberace’s house (each finger had a diamond ring), was Bob Hope’s favorite altar boy (according to him), bravely traveled the world busking before he knew how to do it, famously co-wrote “You Were Meant For Me” with Jewel, pissed off David Cassidy and can count some of the world’s coolest people as fans. He’s also an ex high school wrestler (98 pound class), an obsessed baseball fan, a yoga practitioner, a hopeless romantic, a smart-ass philosopher and a child-like adventurer/observer with an absurdist’s view of this crazy world and the life-forms that inhabit it. As a recording artist, he’s fronted the semi-legendary Rugburns, as well as presenting a critically acclaimed body of work on his own. Unlike many artists, Steve simply gets better and better the longer he lives; his shows are the stuff of legend – no two are the same – and can take an unsuspecting audience from laughter to tears and back again in the space of the same song. He is quite possibly the most talented, and engaging, solo performer on the planet."

Doors for Steve Poltz & Jason Collett at 7.30pm, show at 9pm Tickets are just $20 each (wow!) To prebook visit: or tix at door subject to availability.

The folks from QIRKZ have completely taken over the club on the corner of their street: and have given it the complete QIRKZ treatment, and (on account of all the camels), CAMELOT - a more intimate and fully legal version of QIRKZ is as of a few weeks ago, up and running!! CAMELOT is at 19 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville (corner of - and parking on - Railway Pde, Marrickville) Directly opposite Sydenham Train Station, a short 2 min stroll away! Kids are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult! Sorry but NO BYO food or drinks as venue is fully licensed (but drinks are reasonably priced and food is delicious and premium quality!) Fully Airconditioned - hooray!
